#%^! Slugs!!!

They're back!
Towards the end of the summer last year the slugs found my garden. Apparently they've been waiting for me all winter.

It didn't take them long to feast on the veggies I've got in the ground. I haven't even tried anything in the garden and they already have.

They even got to my little baby bean sprouts! Is there no justice in the garden?!

So....what do you think? How do I get ride of them? I'm not a fan of putting chemicals in the garden. Last year I tried an organic treatment and I think I could hear the slugs laughing at me as they still slithered and munched away.

Any ideas? Anyone?
Please?

Oh Meg! I'm so sorry to hear about the slugs!

A friend of mine was just telling me that she and her garden are under a bit of a slug infestation and she did some research and discovered that the least cruel, least chemical, and least expensive option is a beer trap. As the guy at her garden center said, "That's how I'd want to go!" He also said that a friend did an experiment, and they liked the cheapest, crappiest beers on the market.

Perhaps googling "slug beer trap" will give you some ideas...

GOOD LUCK!

BEER!

Also SLUG KILLER! It totally works. Get the yellow box with the slug on it.

I have heard good things about the beer traps. Good luck because you have some nasty slugs out there in the Pacific Northwest!!!!

The beer option sounds like a good one, but don't you think Matt might take offense to giving perfectly good beer to slugs?

Kidding, of course. You've got to do what you've got to do.

I wonder if Rebecca is referring to Sluggo. Ours is in a yellow can with a slug on it. We've used it to protect our hosta plants, and it works! It says on the package that it's safe for kids & pets, but I don't know much more than that.

Good luck! Slugs suck!

Ha!! I just saw this. I think beer really works, but I just posted about slugs in my garden, too. I think the eggshells are helping. I don't know if they are eliminating the slugs, but they seem to be reducing the damage a lot.

I've heard good things about egg shells...we put the chemicals outside our beds until we can get enough egg shells to go around. I couldn't handle the slugs getting more food than me!
