Training for a race is like learning how to knit...

Training has started for the Danskin Triathalon. I haven't really embraced the training. I guess I'm just slow to get started in training. Training is kind of like knitting. You start off slowly - a quick walk - or learning different cast on techniques. Then you improve a bit - a 3 mile jog around Greenlake or learning to cable. Pretty soon, with enough practice (or continual training) the 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike ride and 5K run will be just like, oh, I don't know, knitting a sweater! Hmm.....maybe I should embrace the training more considering what happened the last time I attempted to knit a sweater!

Finished Objects!

I loved knitting this cute little clutch from One Skein. It's a bit bigger than the picture but it's perfect for me! I'm thinking, instead of adding buttons, I'm going to get a sparkley pin to stick on there! It was made with one skein of Lambs Pride Bulky.

I also whipped up this cute hat from Last Minute Knitted gifts! It's going to a soon to be born girl and now I'm working on her twin brother's hat in a shade of blue! It was made from Mission Falls 1824 Cotton. Hailey, my parents dog is kind enough to model the hat for me.

Boise Knittin' News

After a fun weekend visiting the family and friends in good ol' Boise, I'm happy to report my favorite knitting store - the store that inspired it all - is finally online. Click on over to Drop A Stitch and check them out! They still remember me (I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing...) but it was fun to stop by! I bought a beautiful skein of pink Lorna's Laces to make the the tank top from One Skein. I also bought two skeins of hand dyed hand spun from Milk & Honey Woolens at the farmers market!

I was also able to get some knitting time with my friend Shannon (we were too busy knittin', chattin' and eatin' to take a pic) and of course...with my mom! She's casting on for the mohair pillow from One Skein.

Picture Day!

I finally found my camera charger so here are some long awaited (although I'm not sure who's awaiting them) pics of my projects!

I finally finished the strap for the grommet bag. Now it just needs to felted, attached and grommets added. I've decided not to add a lining. Almost done I swear.

This picture is actually old. I've finished the clutch from One Skein - just need to felt it as well. I'm going to visit my folks for a few days and they have a top loader, so I'll be felting there...just like old times! I'm also almost finished with a baby hat from Last Minute Knitted Gifts! I'm hoping to visit my favorite knitting shop in Boise this weekend to pick up yarn for some more projects since I'm in between projects right now. Can't wait to yarn shop!

Secret Pal Revealed!

The biggest thanks go out to the best Secret Pal - Karen of FrogKnits! I got my final gift today and what a treat for a rainy/gray Seattle Saturday!

There was a big skein of multi colored Primero Kid Mohair, The Knitting Experience Color book - which is autographed to me by the author Sally Melville and a big, beautiful box of chocolate! I've only opened the mint ones so far - but the night is young! Karen was a fabulous Secret Pal! I've discovered she's a lefty like me and she just found out she's pregnant so hop on over to FrogKnits and wish her well! Thanks Karen!

The importance of North

I think I spoke to soon about being back on track for my last entry. Since getting all comfy in the new pad, getting back into the long missed knitting routine, I began to realize I haven't been getting any mail. I forwarded my mail with the post office nearly a week ago. A trip down to visit the friendly postal working at the post office confirmed a dreaded fear that began to nag at me - I had forwarded all of my mail to the wrong address. Sounds like a completely stupid mistake, right? Here's what happened. My new landlord gave me my new address and said she didn't have the zip code, I'd have to look it up on the postal service Web page. Fine. Done. Mail forwarded, bills paid with new address noted on the back, emails sent out to over 50 friends and family with new address. Still no mail. Apparently she neglected to tell me to add a North to the end of the Avenue address! A small detail since that direction indication also puts us in a different zip code! We quickly redirected our mail, with the North noted, and now have the assurance that possibly, we'll get the missing mail. Such is my life. Sadly, my last package from my wonderful Secret Pal was most likely sent to the wrong address! (SKP - if you're reading this please email me to let me know if/when you sent it so I can keep and eye out for it or send me your email because I lost it - big surprise - and I'll give you the correct info).
On another note, I'd like to thank Jessica - my personal yarn guru - for pointing out that my new fabulous yarn is not Lions Brand, but Lamb's Pride. I think I need another vacation.

Back on track

I was finally able to go to Purly Girls tonight! I feel as if there has been a shift in my world and things are finally settling back into place. Tonight I finished my sisters Valentines gift - a flower wash cloth from Weekend Knitting. (See ....there hasn't been a lot of knitting lately) and I've made great progress on my strap for the felted bag. I also purchased One Skein by Leigh Radford this weekend! I purchased a skein of Lions Brand Bulky to make a cute clutch from the book. Once the strap is finished I'm going to get started on a fun (hopefully quick) project and get back on on track! Pictures to come later....I can't work miracles and get everything done at once. Baby steps, people, baby steps.
